Alejandro Zambra! All of his published books are amazing. While I was writing my own book, his way of writing influenced me massively.
They have a huge background of literature. It’s very easy to observe the flame of rebellion in the culture of Latin America and this passion shapes how do they perceive the concept of literature. Also, as well as the Turkish Literature Latin American countries have raised many successful and talented writers and young generations have the opportunity to get inspired from them in order to create something authentic.
The term of literary agent is not a concept which can be understood easily. It sounds a little bit professional and that’s pretty normal that readers still haven’t understood what a literary agent does. In the literature and publishing sector, people who has been structuring the industry have to earn money and literary agents play a key role in this situation, but they don’t have to be in the limelight. In the beginning, I have given several interviews in order to express the role of a literary agent and many people started to have an opinion about this concept. However, as I mentioned above readers don’t need to know the duties of literary agents.
From everywhere! For instance; I get inspired from Holly Golightly while creating Yasemin and I referred to Deniz Gezmiş in order to demonstrate the rebellious and revolutionist character of Deniz. Also, I get inspired by myself but usually, writers don’t reveal those identities.
First of all, Berlin is not an expensive city if we compare it with London or Paris. And the characters in my book are not from a rich country, they are from Turkey, they can afford to live in Berlin. The youth that I mentioned in ‘Biz Burada İyiyiz’ were also looking for somewhere where they can feel free and Berlin provides that as well. Also, Berlin is one of the biggest cultural hubs in the world and even the German government makes huge investments in order to develop this creative culture. And, there is a huge Turkish creative community in Berlin. So Turkish youngsters can live there easily even if they don't speak Turkish.
Of course. Wim Wenders, Michael Haneke and Pedro Almodovar.
I always prefer to write than talk. I think that I can express myself clearly with the written language. Also, I think that if a person gets involved in literature, will always avoids dialogues.
I wrote my second book ‘Türkçe Alfabe’ to seek some answers for this situation. I think that the concepts of art and literature are going to play a very important role while facing up to our past. As a writer, poet or an artist you have to be bold and brave. And those courageous characters are going to open a pathway of facing up with our history. Especially, writers have a huge responsibility. In this country, most of the filmmakers have to be supported financially in order to make films and they don’t have the opportunity to criticize the government. However, the status of writers on this case is slightly different.
