Morbo y Mambo is a rock band that incites wild dancing.
Formed in 2007 in Mar del Plata and now based in San Telmo, their music rides on smoking and wet dub, switches in and out of a powerful funk, reaches kraut rock and from it emanates a constant psychedelic halo.
The music we do is a big salad of genres. We are seven members so there is lot of the music we grown up hearing. Black music like dub, soul, afrobeat o jazz and other like electronic or psicodélic rock. But especially groove, our idea in the shows is that people dance a lot and Generate with the music a sort of trance shared with the public.
All are good changes. We have travelled a lot and played in many scenarios to those who never imagined that we would get. On a personal level, to work in music is something that requires time and patience. But it is very rewarding.
The first album had a naturalist concept production behind. The band was playing a lot and we had not yet edited a LP then, so the idea was to capture the energy of those shows that had a lot of improvisation and dark climates. After the edition of that first album the band hade changes on members also, that defined much the sound that we would begin to work since then. Carla Flowers left the band and joined Nacho of Andres in guitars and Mauro Alberelli, which in a first moment was percussionist, and then came back with with organs and synthesizers. In BOA, our second album, released last year, there is a lot of character of them in the sound. Also the sound range is much broad and the songs are now of less "gender", unlike the first disc, where there was a more direct reference to the afrobeat.
The visual element was always just as important as the music for us. As being an instrumental band, there is no literal support, the image in both discs as in the shows was always a way to complete “the speech”. The design on our first album was by Carla Flowers, at that time guitarist of the band, and in the second we work with Mati Nuevo and Pablo Pacheco, who are also dealing with the visual at the recitals from a couple of years ago. They interviewed us to know the sensations and images that we suggested the new music and ended up doing a collage that is the incredible cover of the disc.
It is a song that came up at a show, improvising on a riff. Then, we gave it a structure for the album. The title refers to a classic football training, 4 defenders, 4 flyers and 2 front but also the place where we rehearse and we create all our music: The factory, a space that remains in Peru 442, in the neighborhood of San Telmo, and that we share with several bands in the indie scene of Buenos Aires (Nairobi, Mompox, Las Kellies, Banda de Turistas), plastic artists and people of the world of theater and dance.

It is almost like our second home. In addition to rehearsing in the neighbourhood our main activity is to go to eat, we have five or six places to eat that we are fanatics.
Yes, we hope. Meanwhile, we will be here making music and more music.
Right now we are presenting our second album in Argentina and we hope next year to go to Europe for the first time with a new album under the arm.
